OHI Reaches an Important Milestone This August

This August OHI (Ocean Health Initiatives), an FQHC with sites in Lakewood, Toms River, and Manahawkin, reached a significant milestone: the registration of its 100,000 unique patient.

Along with that milestone, OHI is pleased to have expanded its health care services in innovative ways to the underserved populations of Ocean County. For example, This March, OHI launched the Patient Portal, an online website that gives patients easy access to their medical information from any Internet connection, such as one’s home, the library, or phone; and an updated OHI website (www.ohinj.org).

Recently OHI introduced two cost-saving programs: a discount prescription drug program at participating pharmacies and a discounted lab pricing program in association with LabCorp.

This past May, OHI began a free chronic disease self-management program developed by Stanford University, called, “Take Control of Your Health.” The workshop offers patients six 2.5 hours weekly sessions during which patients learn innovative techniques and strategies for better health management of such chronic conditions as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes.

Dr. Theresa Berger, CEO of OHI, said, “Ocean Health Initiatives has been a proud provider of health care to the residents of Ocean County going on almost 10 years. We never imagined our expansion would be this great in so short a time. We are honored to have been able to help so many residents and hope to continue to meet that need in the years to come.”

About OHI:  OHI, located at 101 Second Street, Lakewood; 301 Lakehurst Road, Toms River; and 333 Haywood Road, Manahawkin, provides comprehensive preventative and primary care, including pediatrics, maternal and child health, prenatal, WIC, universal immunizations, and dental health to the area’s uninsured, underinsured, and undocumented residents on a sliding-fee scale, based on an individual’s or family’s ability to pay.
