Family and Children’s Performer to Hold Concert in Lakewood
Enjoy a free Lakewood Township concert for people of all ages, sponsored by Investors Bank, Lakewood, and Dr. Gary Wheeler, Lakewood Family Dentistry, Route 70, Lakewood. Bring lawn chairs.
Mark Rust, a multi-talented family and children’s performer from Woodstock, N.Y., will entertain the entire family at the Lakewood All Wars Memorial Amphitheater, North Lake Drive, Lakewood, Wednesday, July 9 at 7:00 p.m.
This show will begin with “My Family’s Musical Traditions,” a fun collection of songs performed on a variety of instruments, including guitar, banjo, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, and spoons. Rust always involves the audience in some fun way on every tune.
In the second part of the show, Rust will hold a group workshop called “Tunes for Spoons,” during which Rust will hand out spoons and teach everyone how to hold and play the spoons. Anyone can do it! When everyone has the hang of it, the group will play along with fiddle tunes, ending with a great group spoons solo.
Finally, Rust will also teach some traditional American country dances that require no experience. These dances, such as the “Virginia Reel” and “Patty Cake Polka,” are fun and easy to learn.
