Woman Golf Pro Promoted at Eagle Ridge
Now that she has been promoted to head golf professional at Eagle Ridge Golf Club, 2 Augusta Drive, Lakewood, N.J., Rylee Plitz, Toms River, is one of a few women head golf professionals in New Jersey. As head golf professional, Plitz is the head of all golf operations, such as tournaments; instruction, including the golf academy; camps and clinics; and merchandizing for the golf shop.
Ten years ago Plitz started as a golf shop attendant at Eagle Ridge and then became director of instruction. Before she joined the staff at Eagle Ridge, Plitz was a golf shop attendant at Innisfail Golf Club, Canada, where she had been born into a golfing family.
After graduating from Innisfail High School, Plitz earned her B.S. in health studies with a minor in mathematics from Monmouth University, Long Branch, in 2008. At Monmouth University, Plitz was on the golf team and served as captain for her last two years there. She holds certification as a Class B LPGA Professional and is a U.S. Kids Certified Coach, a national organization for junior golf.
Plitz said, “The golf course at Eagle Ridge is a hidden, amazing gem. The conditions here are excellent and we have an outstanding staff. The experience golfers can have here at a reasonable price – well, no one can compare to us.”
Eagle Ridge, one of the most southern golf courses in the New Jersey section of PGA of America, received the Player Development Award four out of the last five years. The Player Development Award, which considers the PGA Professional’s growth of the game leadership, commitment at the section and national levels in the player development arena, and the meaningful impact made at the facility was given to Kevin Beirne, the PGA professional at Eagle Ridge in 2014, 2015, 2016; and to Mike Attara, each year from 2006 to 2010.
Plitz will initiated Night Golf, beginning at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31. Nine holes of golf, walking only (no carts) is $20.00 for members and $30.00 for the public. Golfers can also enjoy a Craft Beer Par Three event and barbecue during which Eagle Ridge teams up with local breweries Tuesday, August 14. Registration is required. The fee for the Craft Beer event is $35.00 for members; $45.00 for the public.
Joe Murphy, PGA, Plitz’s husband, also works in the golf industry at Perfect Swing, Toms River, a business that specializes in repairing and fitting golf clubs. Their dog Hank, an English Bull Dog, does not play golf.
