Lakewood Twp Recreation Department Announces Summer Recreation Programs
The Lakewood Township Recreation Program has something for most children this summer.
Instructional Band Camp: June 22-July 8: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Lakewood High School, for students in grades 4-12. Band Camp features group rehearsals and sectionals for all wind, string, percussion instruments; and beginners’ lessons. An excellent opportunity to start a new instrument. Music videos and free lunches included.
Fee: $5.00 for Lakewood residents; $100 non-residents. Pre-registration is required. Contact the Lakewood Recreation Office at 732-905-3412 Ext. 6017 or Wilbur Wittemann at www.lakewoodjazz.com.
Wrestling Day Camp: June 27-July 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Lakewood High School Wrestling Room. The best coaches and scholastic wrestlers in the area will teach proper techniques or fine tune skills. Matches and tournaments. Free lunch included. Fee: $10.00 for Lakewood resident; $50 (non-resident) $25 each additional child.
Free Lakewood Youth Chorus and Theater Camp programs: June 22 to July 8, 12:00 to 3:00 p.m., Lakewood High School Chorus Room. Like to sing? Join the Lakewood Youth Chorus. No tryouts; everyone sings. Lakewood resident, grades 1-5. Want to learn to act and perform on stage? Come to theater camp. A high quality program for grades 4-12. Free lunch is included.
Free Playground Programs: For children ages 6 to 15 who prefer playing outside, seven playgrounds are available to all Lakewood children, July 5 to August 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Free lunch is included.
Parents MUST register at the following playgrounds: Clarke School, Clifton Avenue School, Larry D’Zio Park, Pine Park, Rev.Clayton Park, Spruce St. School and Hearthstone Park. Each site is staffed with experienced adult supervisors who have designed a variety of enjoyable activities for children.
Playgrounds will be closed on days of inclement weather. WOBM will announce closing information. Although supervision is provided, your child is free to leave the playground at any time. Parents MUST REGISTER CHILD ON THE PLAYGROUND OF YOUR CHOICE!
Free Summer Fun Camp: July 5 – August 12, 9:00 a.m. to Noon, Monday through Friday, School #5 playground. Children ages 3 (as of June 1) to 5 years of age can enjoy arts and crafts, nature walks, trips, free lunch, games and special events with qualified staff. Parents must register their child and proof of age and residence is required.
